AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE YOUR MOVE AN EASY ON

The Family: The family was moving from Oklahoma to Marshfield, MO. The husband was in a wheel chair and both husband and wife were in their 80s. There was no way they could make a trip to look at property or take care of all the things necessary to relocate.

Their  Property Out of State:
They had a 3 bedroom ranch, brick, fireplace, central heat and air, dining room, breakfast room, 2 baths, walk in shower, walk in closets, patio, 2 car garage, 2000 sq. ft. privacy fence. Our first question was what their property was worth where this family lived, and what they would be willing to spend to relocate.  This would include the cost of a house, deposits for utilities and cable, and cost of moving.

Why the Move: For health reasons the desire of this couple was to move closer to their daughter, down size the size of house for easy access and maintenance, and still have enough room for their furniture and guests.

Special Needs:  The family needed to be within 15 minutes of their daughter, needed central heat and air, needed doors wide enough for a wheel chair, needed tile or vinyl flooring in the kitchen and dining area,
needed 3 bed rooms, 2 bath rooms, walk in closets, central heat and air,  deck or patio for humming bird feeders, two car garage easy access to outside. Not more than 2 steps with room between the steps for a walker or wheel chair, easy access, to grocery store, bank, church of their preference, doctor, good neighborhood, good view, cable.

Our Part: After only two weeks of searching we found the house that would meet their needs. It was a new house, having only been built for a month, which would mean that it would be low maintenance for them. It was a also a smaller house like they had wanted, to cut down on cleaning, and had permanent siding and partial brick. The price difference in the two houses gave the couple some spending money for the move. The new house met all the requirements they
wanted, plus it was not only close to their church, grocery store, and bank, but had a family that went to the church they would be attending on the same block only 2 houses down.  It was also  one block from a nursing home, so that the wife would be able to drive to and from the nursing home should this become a necessity later on. The house was located in a new neighborhood with restrictions making it a quality neighborhood. The town was within 15 minutes of the daughter. Pictures of the inside and out were sent and the couple who liked what they saw and agreed to purchase the house. The financial part of the transaction was handled by phone, fax, and mail.

A reputable mover was located for the family in their area. A moving date was set. Gas, Electric, Water, Phone, Cable, were all in place by the time the couple arrived. Deposits were made by mail. Because the husband and memory problems we asked the phone company if a number with the same last 4 digits as the phone number they had had all their married life was available.  It was and we secured that phone number for them. Lawn care was secured. The family had amaryllises that had been passed down for three
generations and wanted these planted as soon as they moved. The lawn persons were notified and were there to see that the plants were properly taken care of and transplanted.  The photograph to the side shows the amaryllises the following year.

Rather than drapes, the wife wanted blinds that would require minimal maintenance.
She dreaded the process of having custom draperies made and installed as in their previous home and no longer wanted to be bothered with them.  We suggested vertical
blinds easy to care for and textured to look like drapes when closed. Samples were obtained, color preference was determined from conversations with the wife, samples were sent for approval and the blinds were installed before the couple arrived at their new home. Pictured is the house with the blinds after the furniture was moved in.

A local doctor was located for the couple and appointments made by phone and a copy of their medical records were sent by their physician to their new physician to insure uninterrupted and knowledgeable medical attention. Their church was notified as to the date of their arrival and their new bank worked with their old bank to make the transferring of funds easy and accessible from the day they arrived.

When the family arrived they found that the builder had left cool drinks and refreshments in a ice chest in the kitchen for them to enjoy upon their arrival while their helpers unpacked their things. All of their furniture had been measured and layed out on drafting paper which had a to-scale drawing of each room of their new home so that movers could unload each piece of furniture in the proper room and in the approximate location in the room where the furniture would be placed.  Someone was there to instruct and supervise the movers so that the unloading of the couple's belongings went smoothly.
